Lime Zest

Lime Zest
This week's bundle is all about the color lime!   This pretty grouping is chock full of pretty greens.
You'll receive 1 Fat Quarter of Each:
  1. Carousel Tonal Green Flower - P&B Textiles
  2. Carousel Green Lattice - P&B Textiles
  3. Marble Swirls Green - Moda
  4. Essential Petite Dots Green - Wilmington
  5. Carousel Tonal Green Stripes - P&B Textiles
  6. Toscana Picket Fence - Northcott
  7. Just Color Green - Studio E
  8. Basic Brights Lime Green Swiss Dots - Windham

I had a lot of fun with all these green fabrics! I knew I had to make something limey! ;) I decided on making a couple of Lime Zest Placemats!

Aren't these perfect for summer?!! They are so colorful and fresh!  These are easy to sew up and would look perfect on your table for the summer!

These placemats feature a little appliqué and some piecing - which I love! I love combining both techniques in projects.  Instead of binding, I sewed the three layers together and turned right side out.  This is a huge timesaver and I love doing this with placemats.  However, if you prefer the look of binding -- it would look great like that too!

Let's get started!

Supplies for 2 placemats ( There is enough green fabric for you to make four placemats out of a FQ bundle - you will just need to purchase more background fabric and backing fabric)

Cutting:

From assorted greens:

  • 24 - 2.5" x 2.5" squares
  • 16 - Lemon Zest slices (backed with fusible web)
  • 2 - large circles (backed with fusible web)
  • 2 - small circles (backed with fusible web)

From background:

  • 1 - 12.5" x 12.5" square

Instructions: all seam allowances are 1/4"

Now you need to decide whether or not you want to bind your placemats or layer them all together and turn them right side out.

If you are going to do the latter, you will cut your backing and batting the SAME size as your front.  You with then layer in this order: batting, backing right side up and front right side down.

Then pin all the layers together and sew around the perimeter of the placemat using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Leave a 3" opening at the bottom - that's where you will turn right side out.

Once turned right side out - press the opening shut and then you will sew all the way around your placemat using about an 1/8" seam allowance.  Then you can stitch your appliqué on and also quilt your placemat however you would like.

That's it! Such a fun summery project! I hope you enjoy making it!

Talk to you soon,
